In 2003, Royal Grass originally developed and launched artificial grass for use in gardens, public parks, roof terraces and other landscaping applications with the objective of making it as indistinguishable as possible from natural grass.
In Malaysia, a 9 year warranty is issued for all Royal Grass products. This warranty includes colour fading and the degradation of grass fibers by cause of UV-radiation. The amount of years that the warranty is valid, depends on the intensity of UV-radiation at the place of installation. That is to say, the intensity of sunlight varies around the world. In northern countries, like Sweden, the sun is much less intense than in countries such as Dubai.
Royal Grass offers a 9 year warranty against discolouration and UV degradation of the fibres in Malaysia. The warranty is backed-up by the manufacturer of the artificial grass fibers, TenCate.

Artificial turf may require little maintenance, but it isn’t maintenance free!
7 Pointers To Maintain Your Artificial Grass
- Brush the grass regular with a stiff broom or rake
- Remove debris and leaves regularly.
- You can best remove leaves with a blower or rake.
- Remove weeds as soon as you see them to prevent expansion.
- Just use clean water to rinse off any spills.
- Pet excrement or smells can be removed using a shovel or detergent and water.
- Avoid contact with hot materials to prevent shrinkage of the grass fibres.
Safety And Environment
Royal Grass is produced in Europe, The Netherlands and is guaranteed to be safe for humans and the environment. No toxins, heavy metals or other environmentally sensitive substances have been used to produce our artificial grass.
It depends on the artificial grass quality you choose and how you maintain it, how long an artificial lawn can last. Artificial grass can be used safely and is very durable. With normal use and maintenance, synthetic grass can last eight to twelve years easily. We give a warranty on discolouration depending on the UV-strength on the location. After all, the intensity of sunlight is different in northern countries such as Sweden and countries with very intense sun and heat like Dubai.
Top Quality Fibres
Textiles technology group Royal Ten Cate (TenCate) is a multinational company which develops and produces solutions which are sold worldwide for the protection of people and their working and living environment. TenCate is the largest manufacturer of artificial grass fibres in the world. TenCate produces Royal Grass artificial V-shape fibres as well, which have been designed in close collaboration with us. We both vouch for the premium quality of the fibres. Uur warranty on UV discolouration is issued on behalf of TenCate. Our fibres don’t hold any toxins or heavy metals. The production is compliant with German standard DIN 18035-7. TenCate produces the fibres for synthetic in accordance to the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Royal Grass is tested thoroughly by TNO (Dutch Organisation for Applied Scientific Research). We have certificates for all of our artificial grass products. For example, extensive safety tests have also occurred. The grass is harmless to humans or animals, and is flame retardant. When Royal Grass comes into contact with fire, the sand filler will extinguish the fire immediately. Royal Grass can be used safely in private gardens, roof gardens, playing fields or urban spaces.
Royal Grass E-qual®
Our products from the e-qual® line have been designed for sustainability benefits. The materials used in these products are fully recyclable to make new artificial grass, also known as cradle-to-cradle. E-qual® products have been produced from a 100% polyolefin materials (PP and PE), and there hasn’t been used any polyurethane or latex coating to secure the grass fibres into its backing.

Quality And Durability Of Royal Grass
As the first company, in 2003, Royal Grass originally developed and launched artificial grass for use in gardens, public parks, roof terraces and other landscaping applications with the objective of making it as indistinguishable as possible from natural grass.
The high quality of Royal Grass is based on the developments in fibre technology that were first used in the third generation of artificial grass playing fields:
- High-quality, specially selected PE materials that had already proven themselves in practical applications.
- UV stability and colour-fastness so that the turf did not discolour.
- Safety: no heavy metals, such as lead and zinc, or other substances in the raw materials, which could put users at risk.
- Softness: fibres on which even professional footballers could safely make sliding tackles.
In 2005, Landscape Solutions developed the V-shaped fibre in close collaboration with the R&D department at Ten Cate. The V-shaped fibre keeps the blades of grass upright for a longer period of time, making Royal Grass artificial grass suitable for more intensive use than artificial grasses that do not incorporate this technology. The shape of this fibre is copied from natural grass, the source of inspiration for Landscape Solutions.
Landscape Solutions develops and produces Royal Grass in the Netherlands. All V-shaped fibres are produced at Ten Cate and the production of the artificial grass takes place in Genemuiden, the Netherlands. Royal Grass is proud to carry the ‘Powered by Ten Cate’ label.
How To Determine The Quality Of Artificial Grass
That is a difficult question to answer because there are so many characteristics we have to consider. If we look at the general aspects of artificial grass we believe that the North-European suppliers have a good quality standard. That means, the fibres can stand intensive use and will stay green over years. The main reason for you to choose artificial grass is to have the benefits of a low maintenance, beautiful lawn.
The colour, thickness and the height of the products can differ per product and manufacturer and it is for you to determine which of these you prefer.
If we speak about quality you have to consider that artificial grass products have one thing in common, it will flatten after a period of use. The shape of the fibre is very important in the ‘wear and tear behaviour’.
A flat fibre will feel wonderfully soft and looks beautiful when its new, but you will be disappointed after a while when the “grassy-feeling” has disappeared and been replaced by the flattening of your lawn. Royal Grass has an unique and patented V-shape fibre. This helps to keep the fibre upright for a longer time and allows for each blade to mimic real grass effectively. Besides this advantage you will also love the look and feel of it.
Fibrillated Or Monofilament
There are two types of artificial grass fibres, monofilament and fibrillated. Fibrillated grass fibres are produced by plastic that is pressed through an extruder head, comparable to a thin film like videotape. In this film, small notches are made. If you would pull apart this film, you would see a honaycomb structure in it. To form a strong, rounded grass fibre, the film is spun around. Fibrillated fibres unfortunately do not look very natural and are therefor used more in sports- or play areas. They are also inexpensive. When used intensively, the notches in the film split which makes the grass look more natural.
Royal Grass artificial grass is made from monofilament fibres, which is another type of artificial grass fibres. These fibres are pressed through an extruder head as fibres that are ready for use. You can compare these fibres to spaghetti. A combination of multiple fibres is made and then coiled into a bundle to form the grass pile. The upside of monofilament fibres is that they have a very natural look compared to fibrillated fibres. How flexible, soft and resistent the fibres are, depends on the amount (dTex), shape (V-shape & MiNT) and the materials used (PE).
What Is DTEX?
DTex expresses the length/mass ratio and is measured as the weight of the fibre per 10,000 metre length. A dTex of, for example, 10,000 means that a fibre with a length of 10,000 metres weighs 1 kilo. The fibre thickness is also important: the thicker a fibre is, the longer it will remain upright. With Royal Grass artificial grass, the V-shape strengthens the effect of fibre thickness in helping to keep the blades of grass upright.
The total square meter weight of the fibres in relation to their height also gives an indication of the product quality. Just as with carpet, the denser the weave, the more durable – or resistant to wear – the grass will be. NB: this can negatively impact on the ornamental/decorative function or similarity to natural grass. The reason for this is that thickly woven artificial grass does not automatically make it appear more similar to natural grass! A guideline for the ratio between a natural fibre weight per square metre and the fibre length for artificial grass types with a root zone (also called artificial moss) is a minimum weight of 45 to 60 grams per millimetre fibre length.
The Backing Of Artificial Grass
As a backing for artificial grass, a woven fabric is used, in most cases made from polypropylene. The material can be strenghtened with woven threads or by addiotion of one or more extra layers. Royal Grass generally uses a double backing so that the fibres are even better attached. It’s important to have a good backing in the artificial grass carpet, to make sure the grass is stable. It should be very resistent to variating weather conditions like heat, frost and rain. A backing is used to make sure artificial grass lawns last longer.
The artificial grass have to be secured in the backing so they are firmly fixed. To do that, a mixture of certain liquids is spread on the backing after the tuft has been done. manufacturers may have different mixtures, but often the coating is made from latex. Latex is a product that is safe for the environment both in production and in use. We never work with a polyurethane (PU) mixture. Polyurethane is a mixture that brings safety risks along during production. We are determined to avoid any possible risks. PU coating on artificial grass is also known to be sensitive to weather changes.
